Stream of Life

I have decided that I will post periodically a favorite poem that may or may not have to do with the subject of funerals. This poem bursts with the joy of acknowledging our deep connection to all life.

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day
runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.

It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth
in numberless blades of grass
and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.

It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth
and of death, in ebb and in flow.

I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

~Rabindranath Tagore

  1. It brings me great joy to see a poem. Why poetry? So often the language of the tongue seems so limited. So, when we quiet our minds, and let Spirit sing through us, words beynd words may stream out of our pens, our hands.
And this one ceertainly reveals that. I am familar with Tagore’s poetry but do not have a book of his …yet. This poem may pull me to that.

I feel I am breathing the breath of the poem, the breath Tagore was breathing when the words found their their way thrugh him, thus we are one.

Shoud our words come from a place less open and free, I say to all who want to expres: write them! Write and be kind to yourself. The words are not good or bad, they are part of your creative landscape. Tagore would understand, I am sure.
